Last year, Canon introduced the S90, one of the best point-and-shoots we’ve ever tested. Rather than go crazy with megapixels, the camera featured a 10-megapixel imaging sensor with larger (rather than more) pixels and a very fast f/2.0 lens.

Canon has expanded its trademark PowerShot point-and-shoot digital camera series with four new offerings, including the “world’s thinnest camera with 24mm equivalent lens.”

All four pocket cameras sport Canon’s signature HS system, comprised of Canon’s DIGIC 4 image processor combined with a high-sensitivity CMOS sensor for better shooting in low-lighting situations. That means reducing noise and pixelation at high ISO levels, revealing more details in dark photos, etc.

Overview:

To say that Canon's PowerShot G11 is growing long in the tooth would be understating things rather dramatically, and with Photokina just a few weeks away, now's as good a time as any to launch a prominent new camera into the world. In fact, Canon just got finished outing a trio of point-and-shoot models, but it seems that Cnet Asia didn't get the memo that a full foursome wouldn't be introduced. The publication's original writeup on the company's new cameras featured a number of G12 mentions throughout the text, and a full-on specifications chart was captured above.

New product on PreOrder.it - Canon EOS 550D

Canon EOS 550D

16 June, 2011 Preorders already left: 6

The sales start: march 2010  Estimated price: $800

Overview:

Canon have updated the mid-range section of the DSLR cameras with the EOS 550D. Building on the popularity of the EOS 500D, the EOS 550D is designed to give you more access to video as well as Eye-Fi compatibility. Priced at £899.99 with the standard 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, the EOS 550D will be available from the 24th February onwards.
Canon EOS 550D: Features
There are a few basic upgrades on the EOS 550D. Notably is the ISO sensitivity top limit being raised to ISO6400 although you can still expand that to ISO12800 if you wish. An interesting point on this is that you can now cap the highest ISO point while in AutoISO, so it won't use ultra high settings to get a decent shutter speed.
The screen has been increased in resolution which is good to see after Canon dragged their feet when it came to getting a 307,000px resolution screen fitted. The new one now has an extra 40,000px at 345,600px or approximately a 1040,000dot resolution. The difference between the older 76,000px screens and the current 307,000px screens is phenomenal and hopefully this will help more but we'll have to wait and see.
The new screen resolution should help with the new video functions of the Canon EOS 550D. It has a Full HD recording facility of 1080p with manual control as well as selectable frame rates. You can choose from 30, 25 and 24fps at full HD quality while pushing it up to 60 or 50fps will reduce the quality to 720p. Alternatively, putting the camera in program mode means you don't have to worry about it. There's also a Movie Crop function that reduces the resolution to a 640x480 area but means you get a magnification of 7x the focal length of the lens.
The metering system now matches the one found on the popular Canon EOS 7D using the new iFCL metering with 63-zone dual-layer sensor. IFCL stands for intelligent Focus, Colour and Luminance metering and it's this information that the new system uses to meter with. It works in conjunction with the focus points to determine the distance from relative subjects and weights the exposure according to the algorithm results.
The Command dial looks nice and chunky and there's dedicated ISO.
A first for EOS, the 550D boasts exposure compensation +/- 5EVin 1/3 or ½ stop increments. It's not an entirely new feature in the industry, Olympus and Nikon have been fitting it to cameras for sometime now, but it means Canon users can also benefit from the expanded setting.
For those of you on the go, the Canon EOS 550D has Eye-Fi compatibility for when you're out and about. The card automatically detects wi-fi hotspots and when it has one it can use, the card will download your pictures automatically. This will probably be to the Image Gateway site that Canon promote but I'll confirm this when I get a test camera in. The Canon EOS 550D also has support for the new SDXC memory cards which have a theoretical maximum size of up to 2Tb (2048Gb)
